This work is an early study for the central figure in Picasso’s watershed painting Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, a cornerstone of 20th century art. If you look carefully, the eyes, hips, thighs, calves, indeed almost every element, are described by the same quarter-circle.

Female nude with arms raised has recently been conserved.
